Eiffel Tower, this unique structure which changed the sky line of Paris , France after the completion of its construction in 1889, owes its name to its architect, Gustave Eiffel . This historic tower stands on Champ de Mars beside the river Seine in Paris , France . Constructed of iron, the tower is 324m. high including the 24 m. antenna and is one of the tallest structures in Paris .

Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, was built for the International Exhibition in Paris ,in 1889, to mark the 100 th . Year of the French Revolution of 1789 . The construction was started in the year 1887 and it took two years to complete it. Although the official inauguration took place on 31 st March it was open to the public on 6 th May. The Tower was opened by King Edward VIII, the Prince of wales who became the King of England, later on. Gustave Eiffel's design was selected among the 700 designs proposed for the tower.

Eiffel tower built of 15000 iron pieces consists of 2.5 million rivets. It weighs 7000 tons and 300 steel workers were required to construct it. The tower has 1652 steps to reach the top. As a part of its maintenance, 50-60 tons of three graded paints is required to fight rust.

Eiffel Tower offers a magnificent view of the city at Paris specially from its top. The best time during the day is an hour before sunset. At night when the tower is lit up by golden lights it becomes one of the finest views in the city of Paris .

Facing a lot of resistances from renowned people like Maupassant, Zola,.Garnier and Dumas who blamed it as destroying the beauty of the city, the monumental structure has safely made its place as the image of the city and the country as well.

An important settlement for more than two millennia, Paris is today one of the world's leading business and cultural centres, and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities.[8] The Paris Region (Île-de-France) is Europe's biggest city economy, and is fifth in the World's list of cities by GDP. With €500.8 billion (US$628.9 billion), it produced more than a quarter of the gross domestic product (GDP) of France in 2006.[9] The Paris Region hosts 36 of the Fortune Global 500 companies[10] in several business districts, notably La Défense, the largest purpose-built business district in Europe.[11] Paris also hosts many international organizations such as UNESCO, the OECD, the ICC and the informal Paris Club. Paris is the most popular tourist destination in the world, with over 30 million foreign visitors per year.[12] There are numerous iconic landmarks among its many attractions, along with world famous institutions and popular parks.

France , the largest nation in Western Europe, is known to the world for its rich cultural heritage. The country has dominated and influenced the cultural world of western Europe specially in the field of art and literature right from the middle ages down to the modern times. French , the official language of France is the one of the most popular language in the world and recognized for its sweetness. Recovering from the losses it has suffered from the two world wars, France today stands as one of the strongest nations of the world, economically, politically and culturally.

France , lies in a very unique position between the Mediterranean Sea and the English Channel and the North Sea and sharing the borders with the countries of Spain, Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg. France has got a democratic,semi presidential form of government. Among the European nations it is an active member and participated in the formation of UN, UN Security Council,European union, G8 and the Latin union . The constitution of France has been adopted in the year 28 th September 1958. The government is headed by the President , who in turn appoints the Prime minister.

France is a highly modern country with 75% of the people living in the cities. The French people are famous for their refined tastes in culture and fashion. France has been an attractive destination to the European artists throughout the world in the 17 th , 18thand the 19 th centuries. French Cinema secured a prominent position for itself in the 20 th century especially in the 1960s. France is the mother land of many world renowned painters,sculptors, philosophers ,writers, dramatists, music composers and film directors.

As the sixth most economically stable country of the world, France is one of the prosperous agricultural nation exporting cereals , wine , cheese and other agricultural products. French wine is famous in the world. The country is also the pioneer in the manufacture of automobiles, electrical equipments , machine tools and chemicals. Service industry has risen to prominence in present day France . The currency of the country is Euro .

Paris is the capital of the country and is the cultural heart of the Western world. The city is famous for its beautiful structures and sculptures and the famous Museum of Louvre.
